Gmail doesn’t open mail contents in Firefox 8.0
by Agent[31] on Nov.12, 2011, under Tech
I recently upgraded to FireFox 8 across the board on my computers. I’m running my gmail browser client off on my macbook and noticed that I was suddenly unable to view the contents of my emails when I clicked on them. Additionally perplexing was the fact that I could no longer send a chat message to anyone on my buddylist as the text field wouldn’t come into focus.
After testing in Chrome and finding gmail working I did a quick google and discovered this fix:
I solved my problem by Updating all subscriptions for AdBlock Plus Go to FireFox upper left
Add-Ons
Extensions
AdBock Plus Options
Filters
Update all subscriptions

I ran the AdBlock Plus subscription update and all my issues are gone. Happy emailing everyone! Let me know if this fix works for you as well.
Battlefield Crazy mouse lag Fix
by Agent[31] on Nov.08, 2011, under Gaming, News
I’ve finally had a chance to play Battlefield 3 for a few days and it’s been given me mixed emotions. On one side, I really enjoy the teamwork based combat that I get to experience playing with my friends and brother. Unfortunately, and this has tainted my experience thus far, I am one of the players encountering a severe (some would say extreme) input lag that is occurs at the most in-opportune times. I decided that this couldn’t possibly be normal and began my google trawl to investigate further.
One comment on a forum post mentioned they disabled Origin ingame for battlefield 3
Before I show you my research I’ll give my system specs so you know what case scenario this represents. I’m running an unoverclocked Intel Quad Core Q6600 paired with a NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT. Nothing fancy, but it will play battlefield 3 according to the minimum specs. Of course, that means playing at low settings, although I am doing a resolution of 1680×1050.
The first solution offered to me was to lower the render ahead limit to 1. However this did little to stop my issue.

After this I was able to correlate the issue down to the fact that whenever my cpu was hitting 97%+ or so, this was when the problems occurred. Now I knew what was causing it. Now to isolate why. I read through a multitude of forums, all suggesting different fixes. From removing usb controllers (joysticks or gamepads), neither of which I had plugged in, to overclocking the CPU. One thing is for certain however: BF3 is CPU intensive and less GPU intensive.
I decided to try the Beta drivers, which was 1 version down from the official released by NVIDIA. It lessened the times the mouse input lag occurred, but did not eliminate.
One comment on a forum post mentioned they disabled Origin ingame for battlefield 3 and that did the trick for them. So I tried it. A simple fix really. Now the game runs silky smooth, and feels just like battlefield 2 bad company before it.
Click the gear Icon in Origin, then click settings. Go to the ingame tab and disable ingame either entirely, or for Battlefield 3.
Let me know if this solves it for you with this specific hardware, or with other hardware.
The Journey Down Under

We have arrived safely in Australia in the city of Sydney. It’s a mild 50 degrees and feels a lot like San Francisco. Many things are different here: steering wheels, left sided roads, wonderful accents. But nothing prepared us for the upside-down nature of a continent fully in the Southern Hemisphere. It may take a while before everything feels right-side up.
Today (Monday) we hit the Aquarium and visited Chinatown before getting tired around 3:30pm localtime. We got back around 4 and fell asleep for 4 hours. End of day 1.
Audio Spectrum Analysis Reveals Batman Image
by Agent[31] on May.20, 2011, under Film, News, Tech
It was recently revealed that a new site: http://thedarkknightrises.com went online. If you navigate there all you find is a black screen with an audio file playing. If one takes the audio file and displays the spectrum analysis of the clip you would find the hashtag #thefirerises imbedded in it. This leads to @thefirerises twitter account which generates a mosaic of Tom Hardy as Bane. That’s cool and all, but what really got me going was the hashtag embedded in the audio file. I wasn’t sure if someone leaked an image like that to clue people in to the twitter account, or if someone actually did a spectrum analysis. Well, it’s true. The hashtags exist, and I will show you how to see it for yourself with three popular applications: 1. Adobe Soundbooth 2. Soundtrack Pro 3. Audacity.
The first thing you will need to do is grab the audio file itself. You have a couple options, so go to the dark knight site and figure it out. Click on the page and then save the wav file to somewhere you will find easily such as your desktop. Now fire up your favorite audio editing program, of which audacity on my list is free.
Adobe Soundbooth Instructions
Import the audio into your timeline. By default you will have the waveform view as below.
Click View –> Spectral Frequency Display
And there you have it, hashtags revealed
Now for Soundtrack Pro. Once again, import your audio to the timeline. By default you will see the waveform.
Click View –> File Editor Display –> Show Spectrum
Voila! Instant Hashtags!
Finally, Audacity. Import the audio into the timeline.
Click the down arrow on the current track and select spectrum
And here. We. Go.
More info on the Bane image can be found here: [io9]
The hidden text will show up as audio noise when you listen to the .wav file.
